Some hard truth’s about Baldur’s Gate 3, like it or not
The love affair with Baldur’s Gate 3 is in annoyingly high gear. Besides Starfield this was the game I was hoping would be amazing. By all rights it is a great game. But this love affair is overshadowing the issues that it has, and that makes it difficult to talk about them.
Every time I talk about it, I always have to continue to remind people it is a great game it just has a few issues it needs to resolve:
- The Camera is an abortion. It is horrible. I know this is what they have been using for their past few games but this is just atrocious. Especially in battle. This. Is not an opinion, this is: FACT.
- The character creator is very limited and some of the elements are pure trash. The “faces” are almost unusable. These are MFing HERO’s not some grain mill owner down the road. They need to make more of these and make them better, much better.
- Romancing I guess is fine. I love seeing titty and ass, but not a fan of playing through banging each other. But I have yet to really do that in the game so I am not speaking from experience or anything.
- The NPC’s you travel with? SMH. I could spend a day on how bad these are. Being a DM for 30+ years I cringed seeing these characters… “come to life.” I list them from best to worst here:
- Karlach is enjoyable. The least cringe and the most original IMO.
- Lae’zel as annoying as she is, I can understand her, and her position and the lore behind her.
- Shadowheart is fine, but the name bothers me. Its like someone put in over used stereotypical fantasy names in a hat and they just picked it out. Darkfire, or Bearfucker, or whatever… but she is palatable
- Wyll NGL never used this guy yet. His introduction in the goblin attack battle was sad. Provoke the blade, feel it’s sting? STFU dude, another pull something out of the stereotypical fantasy quote hat and that is what they got.
- Gale Critical roles “You got gale!” but no it is actually Billy Ray Cyrus. His personality I like, but everything else is a shear lack of creativity. Plus he eats magic items, come on man. Really?
- Astarion Easily the worst forced into a gay, bi-sexual character. I don’t care if he is, but could you maybe make his personality a bit more, palatable? Plus he is a vampire. (Sigh heavily) Really? I never travel with this clown. Never.
This “love affair” of the game is overshadowing the issues and poor direction. It’s like a beer belly. The wife thinks the beer belly is cute until the husband pisses her off. Then, he’s a fat slob.
Guess BG3 is the fat slob for me right now.
Though I am still playing it, and it intrigues me so I can’t really complain too much (though I just did). It is just the voices of the people who are concerned and truly has issues with the game is something that needs to be turned up, volume wise.
But alas, here is the 45 minutes of BG3, turned to Fallout 4 because I was fed up with the game.
