After about 3 weeks off from putting up videos on the Beruud Channel on Youtube, I am starting in again and I am very excited. Not really the stain in my pants excited, but close.
WHAT DID I GET
I didn’t want to skimp too much, I wanted a computer that will last me a LONG time and can advance with the upcoming technologies. My final bill for all the tech was $1,450.00. Yes, that is some serious coin. My warning to Noobs (like I was / am) is below the list. Here is what I purchased and if I recommend it or not in parenthesis.
– MSI ATX Gaming Motherboard. (recommended)
– Redbone Mid Tower Case (redbone… heheheheh) (not recommended, at all, avoid at all costs)
– i7 6700K 4.0Ghz. I have it slightly over clocked at 4.2 right now. (recommended)
– 16GB of Ripjaws DDR4 RAM. (recommended)
– Samsung 500GB Pro SSD drive (recommended)
– Coolmaster fan system for CPU (Its ok, its a bit goofy, but I guess it works)
– 500w Power Supply (I would upgrade to 750w, still might in a year or two)
– EVGa Nvidia GTX 1070 8GB Graphics Card.. slightly overclocking. (recommended)
BUILDING THE MONSTER
I received all the parts and on a Friday afternoon / evening I was going to put the thing together. I have watched a ton of how-to videos, and thank God because the directions you get with any of these components is absolutely garbage.
The actual build went fairly smooth, with only a few hiccups. I got to a point where I had to test it, to make sure the computer turned on and that it went to a boot screen… and nothing. No power, would not turn on. I went back and forth and de-constructed most of the computer to figure out what was wrong and I could not figure it out.
I found that there is something called standoffs. That were not installed in the case. I did not install them and that would of fried my computer if I did get power to it… so I got real lucky with that. No where in the tutorials, or in the directions did they talk about standoffs (the screw like metal pieces that separate the motherboard from the case. Kind of an important thing, wouldn’t you think? But almost every case comes pre-installed and of course, the one I chose (which I do not recommend) did not.
Long story short, a guy at work told me to come over and I did and he got it fixed in less than 2 minutes. Just some weird wiring issues from the power button to the board.
It works now… and it works VERY well. It screams.
THE RABBIT HOLE
If you have a budget make sure you have reserves. I originally ordered a GTX970 with the system but it was out of stock at Amazon. That kept me under my budget. But I decided to splurge and go full throttle and grab a GTX 1070. No more screwing around you know? It was 225 more dollars but at this point, OMG so worth it… and the Operating System… that was an extra 90 dollars. I also bought some tools for the build and a high end surge protector… which added another 70 dollars. It adds up.
So that’s it… the new rig.
Looking forward to the new graphics for my channel… I hope you will too.
